Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I have my ducts cleaned?

There are three main reasons to have your entire HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning) system cleaned.

1. Your HVAC system acts as a filter and collects dust, debris, hair, smoke and thousands of other allergy-causing pollutants every day. These contaminants end up in your air duct system and then get recycled in your indoor living environment. When you use your furnace or air conditioner, these pollutants are circulating in your home. Having your entire air duct system cleaned will provide a healthier indoor environment for you and your family.
2. Cleaner vents will also reduce the amount of dust in your home. You won't have to stop dusting entirely, but you will notice a dramatic difference in the level of dust.
3. Air duct cleaning will increase the efficiency of your heating and cooling systems. Studies have shown that a dirty HVAC system reduces the efficiency of your heating and cooling systems by 21%. This means that your heating and cooling systems must work a lot harder when they are not properly cleaned and maintained, which can lead to higher energy bills as well as systems that have a higher chance of breaking down.

How do I know if I need to have air duct cleaning done in my home?

While most homes would benefit from air duct cleaning, here are the consumers who really should make it a priority to have their vents cleaned:

1. People who suffer from allergies, asthma, or other respiratory illnesses. According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), the indoor air we breathe can be up to 100 times more polluted than outdoor air. And for anyone suffering from allergies, asthma, emphysema, etc., your indoor living environment can be contributing to shortness of breath, asthma or allergy attacks, etc. Cleaning the duct vents will greatly improve the indoor air quality of your home, helping you breathe easier.

2. New homes. Newly constructed homes have more debris than you would expect. Sheet rock, nails, insulation, pounds upon pounds of dust and sometimes garbage makes its way into your vents. And even the most cautious contractors and home builders cannot ensure that nothing will fall into the vents, especially since the air duct system is installed long before the walls, insulation and sheet rock go up.

3. Newly remodeled homes. Basement refinishes, updated kitchens and bathrooms, add-ons...anything that involves a saw or a sander will more than likely kick up dust and debris that will end up in your air duct system. Even with the utmost caution, dust and debris find their way into your vents.

How long will it take to have my air duct system cleaned?

The time it takes to clean your duct vents depends on a few factors:

1. The number of vents you have. The more vents you have, the longer it takes to complete the job.
2. How difficult the setup is. Some trunk lines are easy to access, while others may be more challenging.
3. How many furnaces and the furnace type you have. The average home can take anywhere between 2 - 3 hours to clean.

Do I need to move anything before you come to clean?

Our staff is trained in moving only the necessary items to complete the job. We need access to each register opening, a working area around the furnace, and parking as close as possible to the furnace.

Will air duct cleaning make my home dusty?

In addition to paper wrapping each register, we use what's called the "negative air" system that sucks out the dust and debris. This means that we attach our system hose to your main trunk line (the furnace area). The compressed air we also use pushes the debris and dust down through our hose, outside to the Air Duct Vacuum System in the trailer.

What brand of equipment do we use?

NIKRO Industries, Inc. began in 1987 as a manufacturer of H.E.P.A. (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filtered vacuums designed for the asbestos abatement industry. Over the past 35 years NIKRO's product line has grown to include sophisticated air filtering equipment, air duct cleaning equipment, vacuums, dehumidifiers, and other mold and flood remediation equipment.

These products are MADE IN THE USA!!!!

How can I determine if the HVAC system cleaning was effective?

The best way to determine if the HVAC system cleaning was effective is to perform a visual inspection of the system before and after cleaning. If any dust or debris can be seen during the visual inspection, the system should not be considered satisfactory. You are welcome to be present to see how the process works and the results. We are happy to provide pictures of before and after!

How often should I have my air ducts cleaned?

Frequency of cleaning depends on several factors, not the least of which is the preference of the homeowner. Some of the things that may lead a homeowner to consider more frequent cleaning include:

• smokers in the household

• pets that shed high amounts of hair and dander

• residents with allergies or asthma might benefit from a reduction in the amount of indoor air pollutants in the home’s HVAC system

• after home renovations or remodeling

• prior to occupying a new home.
